Try to familiarize yourself with the following subtraction facts. Review these facts everyday until you can say and write them without having to think about them. 
Estimating helps you to see if your answer is reasonable.  Round your minuend and your subtrahend to estimate your answer.

For example: 

If you are rounding to the tens place, then the minuend will become 60 and
the subtrahend will become 40.  The difference will be 20. 





22 rounded to the nearest 10 is 20. 


If you are rounding to the hundreds place, then the minuend will become 400
and the subtrahend will become 100.  The difference will be 300.





289 when rounded to the nearest 100 is 300.

Once you have learned the addition facts, the subtraction process will become easier. 
3 + 7 = 10
10 - 7 = 3
Both of the above sentences contain the same three numbers. Therefore,  If two numbers are given in a subtraction sentence, the third number will be easy to find. 

Find the missing number. 

1. 4 + 2 = 6     so,      6 - 4 =  _______

2. 5 +  7 = 12   so,    12 - 7 =  _______

3. 8 + 7 = 15     so,   15 - 8 = _______

4. 11 + 9 = 20    so,   20 - 11 = _______

5. 25 + 5 = 30    so,    30 - 25 = _______
