Math: Subtraction - Flashcards
Memorize the following subtraction sentences in each set. When you feel that you have mastered them, go to the Timed Drills in the Some Helpful Tools section of this page.
Let's take a look at the parts of a subtraction sentence.
Unlike addition, the order of
a subtraction sentence is very important.
We start with the largest number when we subtract.
For example:
7 - 3 = 4
We could also say that we are finding the difference between the largest number and the smallest.
A Fun Fact:
When the minuends are the same and the subtrahends are in order from the largest to the smallest number, the difference is in order from the smallest number to the largest.
Another Fun Fact:
When we add the subtrahend
to the difference, we get the
minuend.
For example:
6 + 2 = 8
3 + 5 = 8
