Math: Addition - Tutorial
Addition is putting two or more like things together to show how many there are in all.
An addition sentence can be written horizontally or vertically as shown below:
The commutative property tells us that changing the order of the addends in an addition sentence does not change the sum.
Adding Single and Double-Digit Addends
Example 1: Add two single-digit addends.
Example 2: Add a double-digit and a single-digit addend. Add one column at a time beginning with the ones column. Click on the Extra Study Help link shown above for
