Math: Multiplication - Extra Study Help
To help you remember the products for these multiplication pairs, follow the steps below:
a.
Once you have finished, place all of the strips containing the factors in order
on the left side as shown above.
Mix up the strips containing the products and place them on the right side as
shown above.
The goal is to place the products next to their appropriate factors.
When you are finished, turn your strips over. If the numbers on the back
match, then your answers are correct. If not, keep trying until you have
reached your goal.
This method may be used to learn all of the Multiplication Facts.
1 x 1 = 1
2 x 2 = 4
3 x 3 = 9
4 x 4 = 16
5 x 5 = 25
When 5 is a factor, the product will either end in 0 or 5.
When 9 is a factor, the product is reversed after mutliplying times 5.
1 x 9 = 9
2 x 9 = 18
3 x 9 = 27
4 x 9 = 36
5 x 9 = 45
6 x 9 = 54
7 x 9 = 63
8 x 9 = 72
9 x 9 = 81
Also, when you add the digits in the products together, you get the number 9.
1 x 9 = 9 09 (0 + 9 = 9)
2 x 9 = 18 18 (1 + 8 = 9)
3 x 9 = 27 27 (2 + 7 = 9)
4 x 9 = 36 36 (3 + 6 = 9)
5 x 9 = 45 45 (4 + 5 = 9) and so on...
6 x 9 = 54
7 x 9 = 63
8 x 9 = 72
9 x 9 = 81
1 x 5 = 5
2 x 5 = 10
3 x 5 = 15
4 x 5 = 20
5 x 5 = 25 The midpoint contains 3 fives.
6 x 5 = 30
7 x 5 = 35
8 x 5 = 40
9 x 5 = 45
54 is the reverse of 45
63 is the reverse of 36
72 is the reverse of 27
81 is the reverse of 18
Try to familiarize yourself with the following multiplication facts. Review these facts everyday until you can write them without having to think about them.
Write the multiplication pairs on strips of 3 x 1 inch typing paper or construction paper. If you use construction paper, use two different colors. One color will contain the factors, and the other color will contain the products.
Flip the strips over and number the backs as shown below.
6 x 6 = 36
7 x 7 = 49
8 x 8 = 64
9 x 9 = 81
