The order of the division sentence is important.
Remember:
The largest number called the
dividend is divided by the divisor. The answer is called the quotient.
A Fun Fact:
When we multiply the divisor and the quotient, we get the dividend.
For example:
1 x 2 = 2
2 x 3 = 6
3 x 4 = 12
When the difference between the dividend and the product of the quotient and the divisor are not equal, a number is left
over.
That number is called the remainder.
Another Fun Fact:
We can look at division as sharing parts of a whole. The quotient
tells us how many parts to share.
Let's take a look:
If there are eight chocolate chip cookies, four children could receive two cookies each.
