  • Decapod sounds like cephalopod.

  • Cephalopod is an octopus from the class Cephalopoda.

  • This tells you that decapod is an underwater dweller that has ten feet or ten appendages or five pairs of appendages, which equal ten.
  • Subter is a Latin root that means secretly or under.

  • Fugere is a Latin root that means to flee as in fugitive.

  • This tells you that subterfuge means to secretly flee.
Depending on how it is used in the sentence, it may mean
to secretly free from a situation by means of using trickery or            deceit.

If you are given the opportunity to use your calculator during a math exam, use it only for those problems that are more challenging. This is especially handy for exams that are timed.

Use scratch paper (if necessary) to draw out geometric figures. This will give you a visual of what the question is asking.

If you come across a question that requires more time, move quickly to the next question. Go back, if time allows, to answer any questions you may have skipped.

Make sure that all the questions have been answered.

If the exam you are taking has a time limit, divide the amount of time you have by the number of questions you have to answer.

Example:  Let's say you have 40 minutes to take an exam, which  contains 20 questions. This means you would have 2 minutes to answer each question (40 divided by 20 = 2).

Read each question carefully.

Understand what the question is asking by breaking down each part of
the question.

Replace more challenging words with more common words that have the same meaning.

By familiarizing yourself with a word's prefix, root word, the origin, and how it is used in a sentence, you will have a better understanding of what the word means.
